Jess Sims played basketball, lacrosse, soccer, and other sports since she was a natural leader and athlete. In high school, she served as team captain for three different sports, and she also led her collegiate basketball team for three years.

Her involvement with Teach for America in Houston, Texas, launched her career in education. She later held positions at Harlem Village Academies as a teacher, operations director, assistant principal, and principal.

Jess Sims’ desire for connecting to areas that are frequently ignored and inadequately resourced has been motivated by the self-discovery she has had via teaching different kids.
